The Limewash Cake Design You Need to Try

First attempt and fully delivered! Alex from @savemesomesweets experimented in the kitchen by painting a dreamy limewash effect on a fondant cake, and we're totally obsessed. From soft strokes to warm tones, we're breaking down the techniques so you can paint along with us! Keep scrolling for the full video tutorial and prepare to give your cakes timeless texture.

    What You'll Need:

    • Bakers Booze
    • Paint Blend White and Chocolate
    • Bi-Carb Soda
    • Paint palette or a few small bowls
    • Large food safe brush
    • Cake masked in white fondant - you can also experiment on fondant cookies or toppers!

    Mix up your paints

You'll need two different paint colours for this technique. Starting with chocolate, mix together Chocolate and White Paint Blend to create a soft brown shade. Then mix in an equal part Bakers Booze to your paint. Finally add a sprinkle of Bi-Carb Soda to give the paint texture. Repeat this process with White - mix equal parts White Paint Blend and Bakers Booze and a pinch of Bi-Carb Soda.

Mix Paint Blend with Bakers Booze to create a thin and fast drying paint!
Layering on the paints to create highlights and dimension.

    It's time to paint!

First things first, soften your brush by dabbing into a small amount of Bakers Booze. Start by dipping your brush into the chocolate paint and begin painting on your prepared fondant cake. Apply soft, sweeping strokes in alternating directions to build texture. Dip into your white paint and repeat.

Go back-and-forth between applying the chocolate and white paint. Layering on top of one another to add dimension, depth and highlights. Adjust as needed until you've created a beautiful limewash design full of texture!

Tip: Finish by going over the cake with a dry fluffy brush and buff out any harsh lines to achieve a super soft and organic limewash effect!
